PB1A, Letters to the editors

I provided three examples of the letter to the editor my blog, all three letters all have the same common topics which are the women’s rights. There are many kinds of conventions there. Three of them provide the purpose of the letter which talked about the women’s rights. Moreover, they all provide specific examples or events that actually happened in the past to illustrate the topic. Furthermore, all three writers are strongly asking the government to guarantee the women’s rights and also asking the women to fight for their rights. In addition, they all provide the problems in the text and also give solutions. They all use polite sentences in their letters. They also support conclusions at the end of the paragraph.
There are many rhetorical situations in these three letters. In the first letter which is written by Thomas Kane and sent to the DailyItem. One thing which prompted the Kane to write this text is because a police clerk who resorted to legal action because she noticed that she is not getting the same amount of income to compare with a man for the same job for many years. The writer states that “Ms. Wilt earned her wages just like a man did and should fight not just for herself but for all women and all humanity and we should have her back.” Thus, the position of the writer is standing to protect and fight for the women’s rights. The primary audience is the government and the secondary audience are the women and citizens and anybody who is invested in this controversial issue. The goal of the writer is to let the government and other women know that women have the same right as men.
In the second letter, one thing which prompted the Ellen D. Murphy to write this text is because women have rights to choose whether to do abortion or not. However, this is very threatened to America even more than assault weapons. In the text the writer demonstrates “Apparently, in their view, women’s autonomy and control over our bodies represent more of a threat to society than assault weapons.” The writer is Ellen D. Murphy who is from Portland. The writer’s role is to demonstrate the truth that women’s right about the abortion is very threatened to the United States. The primary audience is a group of women who want to do abortion. The secondary audience is the citizens. The goal of the writer is to let all the women know that doing abortion is not right.
In the third letter to the editor, what prompted the writer to write this letter is because many women were facing inaccessible health care and even death or caused dangerous abortions because of it. The writer was Melvine P. Ouyo who is from Boston. The writer is a student at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. She was a reproductive health care provider at Family Health Options Kenya. The primary audience was the government and the Congress. The secondary audience was the women and citizens. The goal of the writer was to let the Congress to notice that they need to support the Global Health, Empowerment and Rights Act, in order to protect all of the women in the world.
The reasons that why these letters are persuasive are because they all state the topic clearly, give their solutions and use formal sentences. However, there are still some things which do not work and not very good in the letter. For example, in the second letter, the writer does not provide her own opinion of the thing. It is better to let the readers to know what writers’ opinion is so that the readers can understand more about them. Moreover, in the first letter, it does not provide enough informations about the writer and let the readers cannot know more about the writer.
